You can look at it as the beginnings of real interactive television — or simply one big episode of the cult comedy TV series “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ brought to life. In any event, thanks to forthcoming plans from IBM and Fox, viewers will soon be able to talk back to their flat-screen televisions via social media such as Twitter and Facebook. The blogosphere has dug up a Big Blue patent application involving Texas-based researchers for a remote control device that will let viewers blog, tweet or Facebook-update their thoughts about what they watching on TV.
This is “Limousine”, a stretch-bicyle from Wouter Mijland. It is completely impractical, the handlebars put out of the riders reach by the iron-pipe extensions, and even if you were Reed Richards that huge triangle would surely flex and buck like an unmanned fire-hose.
But I love it. Perhaps it is the ridiculous inclusion of the everyday practicalities like lights and a pump on such an outlandish machine, or maybe it is the clean lines and seamless construction. Either way, it actually starts to make tall-bikes look like sensible transport solutions.
You can’t buy it either. The description, “‘Limousine’, 2008, bycicle [sic], iron pipes”, combined with the Flash site, telegraph that this is art. And who would want it anyway when you could hop onto Mijland’s other cycle project, a bike/shopping cart hybrid (below)?

Not content in being number one in satellite navigation for the automobile, Garmin has just announced the Edge 500 for the bicycle.
The Edge 500 is one of those bike consoles that can do quite a lot more than your average bike console. Not only can it track the user’s GPS position, but it also gives the user readouts for velocity, distance, time, elevation, as well as climb and descent. It can also detect temperature, and will even change time zones automatically. Yes, a bike with an Edge 500 on it will call all other bikes wimps.
When connected to the Garmin heart rate monitor, the Edge 500 can detect changes in the user’s heart rate. This information can be used to detect the calories burned on the ride. As for the battery life, it is good for about 18 hours worth of “play-time”.
Apparently, Garmin was inspired by actual Tour De France rider Christian Vande Velde. He suggested a small device with a big screen, easy-to-use buttons, and a sturdier mount, “and Garmin listened”. By the way, Vande Velde is a member of Team Garmin’s bike team, so I really hope that they always listen to him.
The Edge 500 is going to be available soon for a retail price of $249.99, and $349.99 with the heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor.
Those of you that love the FPS shooter games will fall even more in love with them with the Wireless Game Gun. As you can see by the You Tube video after the jump, someone has finally perfected a way of putting a screen on a motion controlled controller that resembles a military machine gun.
That someone is an engineer and inventor who is known all across the tech and gadget blogosphere as The Redneck Techie. The video shows him moving around the room and stalking in some “classic Tom Clancy” style with this unique gaming peripheral.
You will notice the cord that dangles from the gun and ends up in his pocket. That is apparently the batteries for the unit, which “were too big to fit into the gun”. Perhaps version 2.0 will not have this wire and really be wireless, but I don’t see it being any more annoying than the Wii-strap.
The Wireless Game Gun is Plug-and-Play compatible with Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, and the PC, and maybe even for Macs. You can look into pre-ordering it here, but you might notice that the site looks a little antiquated. It is projected that the Wireless Game Gun will be available by Christmas, but there is no word on price as yet.

In a move that might finally open a moneymaking channel for the company, Twitter announced on Thursday that it will launch a geolocation feature as part of its microblogging service. It will also offer a new API so developers can add latitude and longitude data to any tweet. Developers will be given early access to the API, so it will be available on third-party Twitter apps before it is available on the service, according to the Twitter blog.
