The Grill Alert Talking Remote Meat Thermometer

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

grillthermometer-og

For those that have started grilling out already, you might want to pick up this handy gadget.  Grilling out is fun, but sometimes it can be frustrating if you’re stuck standing near the grill all day.  Then if you do happen to become distracted, you’ve just burned everyone’s dinner and there is no one around to blame except for you.  It’s the short ones you have to worry about the most though, if they aren’t fed, they will come after you.  With this remote thermometer, you’d always know when the meat is done, without having to hover over the grill all day long.

Just grab the handheld and hook it on your belt with the belt clip.  Meanwhile the thermometer stays in the meat.  Your handheld will display the temperature and even announce out loud when the meat is almost done and then done.  Giving you time to run inside to grab something to place the meat on before it’s actually finished.  Both are of course water resistant, so you won’t have to worry about screwing up the electronics while cooking.  The handheld has a backlight for late night grilling.  To keep them powered you’ll need two AA batteries and then two AAA batteries.  It’ll cost you $69.95 from Brookstone.

The USB Apple Fan

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

usb-apple-fan-novelty-gadget-0

A fan is really just a fan.  It blows on you, the only extra that is useful that could possibly be added to a fan is a heating option.  Beyond that nothing extra is really needed.  Yet, you do need your gadgets to match your style and even your interests.  So if you need a fan to blend in with cheesy USB gadgets, this is the one.  That or this could be for teachers and Apple/apple fans.   Although the fan doesn’t come in very Apple-like colors, meaning, it doesn’t com in white.

This cheap flimsy fan in the shape of an apple is powered by a USB cord.  If you want it blowing on you while you’re away from the computer, you’ll just need 4 AAA batteries on stand by to keep it powered up.  Those batteries are of course, not included with the brightly colored fan.  The fan comes in red, green and orange.  As I said before, sadly there is no white version.  It includes a USB cable with the fan upon purchase.  You can pick it up for $16.99 from Gadget4all.

The Dynamite Alarm Clock

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Waking up in the morning is rarely exciting or even interesting for that matter.  Well now you can wake up to dynamite every single morning.  It doesn’t get much more exciting than that.  Granted, it might not take away the Monday morning blues, but it might at least on occasion give you enough of a laugh to cope with the morning a little better.  Although being so tall and slim it would be far easier to knock this over or on a particularly grumpy morning, be chucked at the wall.

They were kind enough to warn you that the alarm clock is not recommended for travel.  I imagine airport security would not find the alarm clock quite as amusing as you do.  It’s also advised not to leave it anywhere that it might be mistaken as a real bomb.  All around, it’s just recommended that you use the clock with care, which is probably best as jumpy as people tend to be.  Imagine being skiddish over something ticking that looks like a bomb, people are so weird.  The clock runs on 2 AAA batteries, has a backlight display and will cost you £14.99 or $29.68.

Cool overhead light teaches kids astronomy

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Kids love science and astronomy. Don’t think they don’t. So why not give them a leg up (or should I say head up) and get them this cool overhead light that also teaches your kid about the solar system and planetary rotation?

The main light itself acts as the sun, with the planets rotating around it thanks to a low power ceiling fan motor with teeth that turn each planet at different speeds. There’s also a CD which can be played that will teach kids about their solar system and a remote control with a built-in laser pointer for highlighting objects and other fun. The planets themselves are photo realistic in their depiction as well for even more accuracy. What’s really missing though is the ability to click on the remote and have each planet light up separately. It’d also be really cool if each had their own moons rotating around them, but considering that Jupiter has over 50, that’d be a tad tough.
But my real question is, did the creators put Pluto in it? Cause if they didn’t, that’s just wrong. I don’t care what some analy retentive astronomers say, Pluto is a planet, not some lame planet’oid.

Includes: Sun and planets, wires for planets, hardware, remote control, audio CD, instructions. Requires: 3 C batteries, 2 AAA batteries (not included)

Available from Urban Outfitters for about $50 (installation not included).

The Energizer Solar Battery Charger

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Battery chargers are one thing tech lovers can’t live without.  All of the small gadgets that require AA and AAA batteries make it almost impossible to deal without having rechargeable batteries around.  If you’ve managed so far without rechargeable batteries, you’ve likely ended up spending a decent amount to restock on all the necessary batteries.  Well energizer has a new battery charger that will not only keep your batteries charged, but give your USB gadgets a boost, all using solar power.

It can hold AA and AAA batteries just like your average battery charger.  Not only does it have solar power that can charge your batteries, but it also has an AC jack for cloudy days.  To give your USB gadgets a little more juice, just plug it into the portable charger.  It’d be a great charger for travel or just at home.  This isn’t out just yet, but it’s expected to be priced around $50.  Likely more info will be released at the 2009 CES.
